This portrait depicts the main character of the Wraith character set. I really wanted to focus on the hair and jewelry details. He is the emperor of their people, hence the grandeur and gold. I based the lip and cheek piercings off of the idea that they symbolize the power of his spoken word as a ruler. I was inspired by a statue of an Ife Head that I learned about in my first year of art history that depicted a ruler. It has holes around that mouth that would have had chains over the mouth. I learned that the chains represented protection from the divine power of the king’s words.
